Aftershock Day 2 Photo Gallery | Oct. 23, 2016 | Discovery Park, Sacramento

The fifth annual Monster Energy Aftershock Festival was one for the books! A sold-out crowd of 50,000 attended over two days, making it California’s biggest rock festival. With three stages, 35 bands, dozens of food options, live art, and tens of thousands of dollars raised for local charities, it’s no wonder why Aftershock is so popular. Check out our photo gallery from day two featuring bands like Korn, Ghost, Puscifer and more.

Come Hungry, Leave Happy. SactoMoFo 9 Brings 40-Plus Food Trucks to Sacramento’s Discovery Park • May 21, 2016

If you’re the sort of person who slams on the brakes and pulls over immediately upon spotting a taco truck, or even if you’re new to the street food phenomenon and are curious to get your mobile grub on, this event is not to be missed. SactoMoFo 9 is going down on Saturday, May 21, 2016 at Discovery Park in Sacramento and will bring together more than 40 of the best food trucks from Northern California and beyond. Local staples like Drewski’s Hot Rod Kitchen, Culinerdy Cruzer and Chando’s Tacos will pull up next to out-of-towners like Reno’s health conscious food truck Electric Blue Elephant, Korean and Japanese fusion from the Bay Area’s Koja Kitchen and many others. Satisfy your sweet tooth with fro-yo from OMG! Yogurt, artisanal popsicles from Dave Pops or Belgian style waffles from Frenchy’s Waffles. Wash it all down with beer or cider from any of the six “beer islands” throughout the massive event, each one highlights a different local brewery, with a portion of all proceeds benefiting Friends of Front Street Animal Shelter. Breweries include Lagunitas, Bike Dog, Oak Park, Track 7, New Glory and Ace Cider. But wait, we’re not done yet! There’s live music all day from The Soulshakers, Gotcha Covered, and Island of Black and White, including performances from the McKeever School of Irish Dance, Dance Magical and Yemaya Salsa Dance Company. There will also be a huge Kids Zone presented by Sol Collective with bounce houses, carnival games, face painters and more. General admission to SactoMoFo 9 is free, however you can get in early and some other nice perks if you spring for the VIP Lounge Pass. The event runs from 11 a.m.–7 p.m. at Discovery Park, located at 1000 Garden Highway. Learn more at Sactomofo.com.

Fishing Contest

Touch: The Trashiest Fish-Off: A Fish Derby/Trash Pickup Contest • July 12, 2015

Fishing Contest
Do you like fishing? Do you love beating the heat by snuggling up to the water? Do you love Mother Earth? Then come to the trashiest fish-off Sacramento has yet to see. Broadway Bait, Rod and Gun and the Sacramento River Clean Up are teaming together to throw “Fish-On! Trash-Off!,” a fish-catching, trash-picking contest and fundraiser. Prizes will be going to the biggest bass wrangler, the first and second biggest striper catchers, and the first and second best people who are really good at picking up trash and putting a smile on the universe’s face. Not only will this be a fun-filled, jam-packed event with raffles and just plain good humans, there will also be free barbecue. That’s right: barbecue for free! Make sure that if you will be fishing, you have the proper fishing license, which must be on you at all times. The event is open to all canoes, pontoons, kayaks, etc. To register head over to Broadway Bait, Rod and Gun at 1701 Broadway Street. It’s a $25 registration fee with a $10 big fish option. Race will be held July 12 with a 5:30 a.m. check-in at Broadway Bait, Rod and Gun and a 6:30 a.m. gun time at Discovery Park. To get more information, contact Blake at (916) 476-1403 or Skyler at (530) 906-8543, or search for Broadway Bait, Rod and Gun on Facebook.

RAPPERS T.I. and E-40 TO HEADLINE 102.5 LIVE

Let’s talk rap music, specifically how pumped we are that two of our favorite MCs T.I. and E-40 are headlining KSFM’s 102.5 Live concert on Saturday, May 18, 2013 at Discovery Park in Sacramento. This is an all-day ordeal, people, so eat your Wheaties because doors open at 10 a.m. Also on the bill are Far East Movement, Baby Bash, Drop City Yacht Club and Royalty. Tickets are just $19 (plus fees, of course, there are always fees) but that is still a steal for this lineup. Check out Facebook.com/KSFM1025 or Ksfm.cbslocal.com for more information and to purchase tickets as well as learn about giveaways, meet and greats and more.

STONE TEMPLE PILOTS, BUSH, DEFTONES TO HEADLINE AFTERSHOCK FESTIVAL

Just hours before issue No. 113 (June 18 – July 2, 2012) went to press Submerge got word of a mega-huge rock festival coming to Sacramento on Sunday, Sept. 23, 2012 at Discovery Park. The Aftershock Festival, put on by Monster Energy, 98 Rock and Arms Division Concert Management will feature headliners Stone Temple Pilots, unarguably one of the most commercially successful rock bands of the ‘90s. Other giant acts performing are Bush, Deftones, Chevelle, Oleander and many others. You’ve got your old school ‘90s rock as well as some modern stuff, like Escape the Fate and Hollywood Undead, so the crowd ought to be an interesting mix of youngsters and old-schoolers. Think Warped Tour meets Ozzfest. General admission tickets are $49.50 and are on sale now through Ticketmaster. The week of the show the price goes up to $54.50, and VIP tickets are available for $99.50 and will get you a VIP entrance into the festival, access to a VIP lounge with a dedicated bar and a great view (either seated or standing) of the main stage as well as a fancy little VIP guest laminate. Rock fans be sure to mark your calendars for this, as Aftershock Festival is adding to an already stellar summer of live music in Sacramento.
