In recent years, the ukulele has become the instrument of choice for whomever it is you’re crushing on the most at cafes and on Youtube. But the diminutive, guitar-like instrument has enjoyed more than a century of popularity here in the States. Across the Pond, the uke has been charming British audiences as well, thanks in no small part to George Hinchcliffe’s Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain. As funny as they are brimming with virtuosity, the group of merry players will illustrate that though the uke be small in size, it is nothing if not fiercely charismatic. You’ll have your chance to see this touring troupe when they come through Jackson Hall at UC Davis, presented by the Mondavi Center. Showtime is 7 p.m. on Tuesday, April 2, 2019. Tickets are going fast for this event, so if you’re interested, act quickly. For more info, go to Mondaviarts.org.
