Sacramento chef Adam Pechal (of Tuli Bistro and Restaurant Thir13en) will get a shot at national fame on ABC’s new culinary competition show The Taste, debuting on Tuesday, Jan. 22 at 8 p.m. The Taste is like the cooking version of The Voice, wherein four Culinary Mentors (TV’s bad-boy celebrity chef Anthony Bourdain; British food star Nigella Lawson; pioneer of guerilla style “pop-up” restaurant LudoBites, Ludo Lefebvre; and award-winning maverick chef Brian Malarkey) will each coach teams of four professional and home cooks as they battle to create the best tasting dish. The Mentors will hand pick their group of four based on a blind taste challenge. Throughout the season, their mentors will prepare the contestants for challenges in creating dishes that will ultimately be judged by the superstar chefs in more blind taste tests! They don’t know what they are eating, how it was prepared, who prepared it or who they may be eliminating. One cook will be left standing to take home The Taste trophy along with a new Ford C-Max and $100,000. Be sure to tune in and root for Chef Pechal (imagine what sort of new awesome joint he could open with that sort of cash!). We’re keeping our fingers crossed that he gets paired with Bourdain and makes it all the way to the end. Restaurant Thir13en will host a special viewing party where for $25 you get appetizers and a drink ticket. More details and a link to purchase tickets can be found at Thir13en.com
