Jared Konopitski is one of our favorite Sacramento artists/illustrators and his upcoming solo show at Side Show Studios (5635 Freeport Boulevard, Suite 6) is easily one of our most highly anticipated of the summer. In this particular show, which celebrated its opening on Sept. 10, Konopitski has 30 new paintings on display. According to his website, Jaredkonopitski.com, “If you like candy, cartoons and think nightmares are hilarious then this is the show for you! Paint scribbles made into the form of awesome! Perfect for hungry retinas!” Submerge was lucky enough to see a few of Konopitski’s new pieces from the upcoming show just before we went to press with issue no. 93, including Nature Show, in which an owl and a robot share a tree limb on a starry night, and Home Sweet Home (pictured above), a cartoon-ish beach scene showing a cute li’l scuba diver peeling back the ocean just a tiny bit for a massive beached whale to somehow fit through. You get the idea? Konopitski’s art is fun stuff to look at. Perfect for hungry retinas, indeed. Konopitski’s art will stay up at Side Show until Oct. 4 in case you didn’t make the opening reception.
